Welcome to Issue 10 of ZopeMag

By  | February 13, 2005

letter

Dear ZopeMag Readers,

This is our tenth issue. A birthday of sorts and while you might not have noticed any changes – except that the articles have gotten much longer - we have been busy "under the hood".

beehive is in the process of moving to Docutils/reStructured Text as the language of choice for all of our publications including ZopeMag and we are implementing our own system for tracking articles throughout the editing process. We hope this will cut down on layout errors as well as allow us to deliver articles as pdf (a commonly asked for feature) in addition to html.

Another hardly noticable change is that we have moved all ZopeMag and Py users to our opensourcexperts.com User Database. This brings with it immediate benefits both for us and for our readers. We can focus on one User Database (rather than three) and our subscribers can now use one login/password for all of our sites and do things like change their own passwords or request a new one in case they've forgotten their old one.

Log in to opensourcexperts and it will launch our migration wizard where you will be asked to provide some data required if you ever want to announce a Job, Bounty, Call for Tender, Grant, or be listed in our Solution Provider Index. These services are all free and you are (of course) under no obligation to use any of them. Unless you publish an announcement or fill out a profile none of the basic information you provide will be displayed on opensourcexperts.

Some of the above changes might seem pretty minor but we are building the foundation for an infrastructure that will allow us to launch new publications and make available other Open Source related publications via opensourcexperts. You can subscribe to these other publications and never have to memorize another login or password. With your help we can ensure that the market for independently run Open Source magazines blossoms. As both ZopeMag and Py have proven, great authors are out there -- they just have to be given the opportunity to be heard, work with a skilled editor and be given a place to publish. We have been doing this for 10 issues – we're looking forward to publishing many more magazines !

If you look at this issues Table of Contens you will see that we have many great articles coming this quarter. A big thank you from ZopeMag to all the authors who have written for us in the past!
