Article Subjects/Topics
Last update: August 23, 2004
If you haven't already read it please read our "Write for ZopeMag" page.
ZopeMag is open to publishing articles on just about any Zope/CMF/Plone-related subject. But on this page
we keep an up-to-date list of topics that ZopeMag is particularly interested in. This list is based on both reader requests and our desire to publish cutting-edge
documentation.
Powerful Vertical Zope based Applications
Specific requests by our readers include both Product Reviews and indepth articles on working
with ERP5 and BastionLedger.
Plone
ZopeMag is determined to support the Plone community with outstanding documentation. We will
We'd like to publish two Plone articles and Issue. We already have several articles
in the works but are interested in publishing many more.
CPS and Silva
With Issue 8 of ZopeMag we have initiated coverage of these two great Zope based systems.
CPS for example suffers from a lack of quality English documentation and Silva has a loyal
but small following in comparison to the other Zope based CMS Systems.
CMF
Considering how much the various Zope based systems use CMF it is amazing to see very little
CMF documentation. We want to change this! There are so many topics we are interested that we suggest
prospective writers to submit a proposal of their choice.
Workflow
There are several options for designing workflows within Zope applications. We would like to
hear about both product-based and custom approaches to creating and modifying workflows.
Update: We have published several great Plone Workflow articles and while we are still open
to publishing more it would have to build/complement what we have already published on the subject.
ZEO
ZEO is one of the really cool things about Zope because it is available to a Zope developer
"out of the box". Since we haven't covered this topic before we are interested in an introductory
article but would also welcome articles on more advanced topics. In particular we're interested in the experiences of people who have used ZEO in
highly visited sites.
Many people are nervous about putting all their data in the ZODB. What are strategies for making
ZEO harmonize with other load-balancing systems (like those of relational DBs)?
Update: We continue to be interested in this topic but have already published an intro article and a future
article on Zope performance tuning will discuss ZEO as a tool for tuning.
Zope performance fine-tuning and strategies
You have built a highly popular application -- but now you are running into performance problems.
How do you isolate the "expensive" calls within your applications? How do you use tools like the
debugger and profiler to isolate problems? Articles covering this topic would ideally share real world examples of how applications and environments were fine-tuned to maximize performance.
Update: We are publishing a two part series on the topic but this is a huge subject. More proposals wanted!
Doing cool things with WebDAV
Zope was one of the first Web application servers to support WebDAV. This protocol opens up
lots of possibilities. We are interested in articles both for site designers (for example using
the checkout/lock feature in client programs like Dreamweaver or GoLive) and for developers using
WebDAV in novel ways within their applications.
Update: With Issue 9's article by Sidnei we were pleased to give a good foundation article.
Best practices
Topics could range from sharing with readers what tools you use to work with Zope (your editing
environment) to project management and designing workflows. These articles should be light on theory,
focussing instead on real world examples of how Zope developers, site administrators, and designers have used Zope
collaboratively.
