Welcome to Issue 8 of ZopeMag By | May 26, 2004
Dear ZopeMag Readers, The community of Zope users is growing rapidly and it is exciting to see companies and communities building innovative solutions on top of Zope. As we expected one of these, Plone, has become very popular and in each of the last few issues we have published at least one Plone article to support and encourage our readers in their use of Plone. This coverage has been continued in the current issue with two articles: Firstly there is Chris Curvey's article "Fine-Grained Permissions in Zope and Plone", which is a hands-on introduction to extending Plone's permission structure so that only selected groups of users can have access to certain content. But Plone is not the only popular Zope-based content management system. In this issue we also cover two other CMSs: Nuxeo's CPS (Collaborative Portal Server) and Infrae's Silva. We continue our quarterly series of interviews with significant figures in the Zope community: in this issue we interview Stefane Fermigier of Nuxeo. Two stalwarts among our writers will be providing Product Reviews: Kristoph Kirchner will review DocFinderTab, a product that enables a developer to access an object's methods and attributes, and Samuel Sotillo will review mxODBC, a commercial database adapter for Zope. Finally, we are extending our aids for the community, introducing newbies to the complexities of Zope and providing an overview of selected topics for experienced users. In a miniGuide on Zope Hosting Mark Pratt will explain the basic ideas involved and the editorial staff will present the second part of our popular SuperGuide for Zope Newbies. Enjoy! |
