Biggest Issue ever! By Peter Germain | April 1, 2003 Dear ZopeMag Readers,
The last few weeks have been very busy, as we have simultaneously edited Articles for both Issues 3 and 4. We were faced with the unusual situation that we were well ahead with our Issue 4 articles – since the authors had, basically, more time to submit them - but behind on Issue 3. This brought us to change the Table of Contents for Issue 3 (by pulling forward two articles originally slated for release in Issue 4) and has led to a delay in publishing two product reviews. Please bear with us as we work the kinks out of our regular publishing cycle. But let's talk about Issue 4! This is our biggest issue ever! We cover a large range of topics: from Open Page Templates (OpenPTs) – an alternative to Zope Page Templates - to using Zope to manage multimedia streams, to our beginning coverage of commercial, Zope-based content management systems such as icoya and Easy Publisher. Some people in the community are not happy with companies using Open Source software to build commercial solutions but we think these companies provide an important service to the community -- choice. Of course, we will continue our quest to help our readers discover the really wonderful Open Source, freeware Zope Products out there. With over 700 Zope Products currently available this is no small challenge, which is why we are continually in search of people interested in writing Product Reviews for ZopeMag about products they have had experience (good or bad) working with. In this issue we have also reached another milestone. Not a single Article or Product Review is written by our staff writers. We are excited to have so many wonderful writers working with us to help expose our readers to all that can be done with Zope and Python. Of course, this doesn't mean that our staff writers aren't busy writing new content: in the next issue we plan to launch our reference section which will feature the first of our mini- and SuperGuides on various Zope topics. Another thing we have done is changed the layout a bit. We now have a brief overview in the table of contents for every Article and Product Review. . This way we can give far more insight into what each text is about than can be done in the Letter from the Editor. A big thanks goes out to our subscribers! We are grateful for the many thoughtful comments on how we can improve not only individual articles but also our presentation in general. Both our editing team and our writers love getting feedback – so please send us an email if you have something to say! |
