Introduction

Despite the name, ZShrink is not a data compression program but a ticket or issue tracking program. It is likely that the reader has used such a system in reporting a bug in software to its manufacturer or a problem to his ISP over its Website. Internally the complaint is tracked: e.g., it receives a tracking number, the time elapsed between the complaint and its being responded to is recorded, the person/section dealing with the complaint is recorded, how long it takes until the problem is solved is determined, etc. The Zope software product ZShrink Issue Tracker works in the same manner but is intended more for the tracking of issues within a company, for example in the documentation of projects. The software supports file attachments and automatic email notification.

Pros

Easy to install and to configure
Supports 'file attachments'
Uses Zope Page Templates

Cons

Poor Documentation of Python code
Unclear user management

My test configurations

Zope 2.5.0 running on Win2k
Zope 2.5.0 running on Suse Linux 7.0

Installation

First, I downloaded the "tar" archive, then I installed the product into /lib/python/Products/. Installing the product is quite easy. All you have to do is to copy the directory "ZShrink" into Products directory in Zope. In order to run "ZShrink", the products "LocalFS", "ZTUtils v.1.1.1", "TAL v.1.4.0", and "PageTemplates v.1.4.0" must be installed (Note: If you have Zope 2.5.0 installed, you do not need to install the last three products mentioned because they are already included.). As I am using Zope 2.5.0, I just had to download "LocalFS" and install it in the "Products" directory.

The "LocalFS" product is required because "ZShrink" allows users to add file attachments to their postings. These file attachments are stored in the local file system using the "LocalFS" product.
